Joel Rogers is an American academic and political activist. He currently is a professor of law, political science, and sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and has written on American politics and public policy.
Rogers received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, his Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Princeton, and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
He is also the founder and director of a research and policy center, the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS), at UW–Madison. Rogers has written widely on American politics and public policy, political theory, and U.S. and comparative industrial relations, as well as the “high-road” approach to economic development he is credited as first theorizing. His most recent books are Working Capital: Using the Power of Labor’s Pensions (Cornell, 2001) and America’s Forgotten Majority: Why the White Working Class Still Matters (Basic, 2000), which he co-wrote with Ruy Teixeira.
In 1997, he unsuccessfully challenged laws against electoral fusion in the state of Minnesota. The case, Timmons v. Twin Cities Area New Party, went to the Supreme Court, where in a 6-3 vote, the Court decided that fusion is not a civil right protected by the Constitution.
A contributing editor of The Nation and Boston Review, and a social activist as well as an academic, Rogers was identified by Newsweek as one of 100 Americans most likely to affect U.S. politics and culture in the 21st century.

Chelsea Handler Sex Tape
Chelsea Handler maintains that the sex scene on the comedy routine demo tape acquired by Radar Online was just a joke. Apparently, a decade ago, when the audition tapes were sent out to various talent agents and comedy clubs in the hopes of getting some stand-up gigs, Chelsea Handler (and anyone else involved in the decision) thought it might be a good idea to spoof sex tapes. At least, that’s her story.
The tape, which was made nearly a decade ago after Chelsea moved to Los Angeles starts out with Chelsea turning on the camera in what appears to be her apartment. During the first part of the tape, Chelsea is fully clothed in her work uniform. She begins by introducing herself by name before going into a stand-up routine before suddenly cutting to Chelsea and her male partner engaging in an explicit sex act.
The sex scene was phony, according to the late night comedian. It was a joke.
But Chelsea Handler could be telling the truth as well. It might simply be the ‘naked’ truth that the sex scene was filmed as a joke, one where Chelsea Handler is spoofing Rob Lowe and Pam Anderson (and a few others). If so, it simply makes the sex scene on the tape salacious, satirical, cynical, and an attention getter, but also remarkably prescient. Just look at all the sex tapes that have been made and/or ”leaked” in the past decade.

Rocker Bret Michaels Brain Hemorrhage
People is reporting that Bret Michaels, best known in the '80s as the singer for hair metal band Poison but whose second life as a reality star has made him famous to a whole new generation, has suffered a brain hemorrhage. Our Ministry of Gossip has a full post on the news, but here are the basics:

The British Obama - Nick Clegg
Nick Clegg, Lib Dem leader with Obama-style hero for our times, a Churchillian leader or a popular rebel in the mould of Che Guevara? Perhaps he's just another great British underdog. For Barack Obama, the crucial moment came one cold night in January 2008, when the one-term senator's unexpectedly decisive triumph in the Iowa caucuses set him on the path to an epoch-making victory. For Nick Clegg, it happened last week, when he stepped back from his debate podium to address a retired toxicologist from Cheshire.
Obama promised to transcend America's troubled racial past and the culture wars of the 1960s. Clegg promises to make the drivers of night buses let you get off between stops, and to refund VAT to mountain rescue services. (Oh, and cut taxes on low earners, break up the banks, and scrap the Trident replacement.) From Yeovil to Cornwall, from northern Bristol to certain areas of Surrey, there is a frisson, a whisper of possibility: Yes, we can. Well, maybe. Imelda May 2010 Grammy Awards
Imelda May is an Irish female vocalist. She hails from The Liberties area of Dublin City. Her most popular and well-known album is called Love Tattoo. She can play the bodhrán. She won the Best Female at the 2009 Meteor Awards.
Imelda May is true Dublin who's not washing the Irish out of her accent to make-it as the capital city's newest star of traditionally Black forms of music. Black music made by Irish people is often exceptionally good and unusual. There's a certain Irish affinity to the blues, for example. Both Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday spoke of Irish ancestors, and many Irish performers, like Van Morrison recognize in Black music qualities that resonate to the deep note of native forms.
May specializes in Rockabilly music, she has a repertoire of covers and self-penned songs. In 2003, Imelda released "No Turning Back" under her maiden name Imelda Clabby, which has been rerecorded and reissued under her current name.

Dan Seals
"Dan" Seals (February 8, 1948 – March 25, 2009) was an American musician. The younger brother of Seals & Crofts member Jim Seals, he first gained fame as the "England Dan" half of the soft rock duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, which charted nine pop and adult contemporary singles between 1976 and 1980, including the #2 Billboard Hot 100 hit "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight."
After the duo disbanded, Seals began a solo career in country music. Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, he released 16 studio albums and charted more than 20 singles on the country charts. Clinton Kelly will be hosting Miss America Pageant
Clinton Kelly of “What Not To Wear” will be hosting tonight’s Miss America Pageant, alongside former “Saved By The Bell”cast member Mario Lopez.
The judges invited for the event are the following: actress Vivica A. Fox, Olympian Shawn Johnson, radio host Rush Limbaugh, Grammy nominee Dave Koz, American Idol contestant Brooke White, actor Paul Rodriguez, Olympian Shawn Johnson and Miss America 2002 Katie Harman.
The reigning Miss America title holder is Indiana’s Katie Stam. She will be turning her crown over to tonight’s winner which will be announced at the end of the show.
A couple of preliminary awards have already been handed out earlier. Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk won the talent competition and a $2,000 scholarship, and Miss Oregon CC Barber took home $1,000 for besting the other girls in the swimsuit competition.
The 89th Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas will be aired at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.

He shares on-air duties with Stacy London. Kelly started his career as a freelance writer for several fashion magazines. Although he still continues to write he has since expanded into fashion consulting and designing. Before becoming co-host of What Not to Wear, Kelly "hosted a program on Q2 (part of QVC)" and worked as a freelance writer and editor at several publications in New York. He was an editor at Marie Claire and a deputy editor at Mademoiselle, where he was also a contributor under the pseudonym "Joe L’Amour". He later became the executive editor of Daily News Record, a New York-based weekly men's fashion and retail trade magazine.
While Kelly was at DNR, the producers at What Not to Wear decided to recast the male lead, Wayne Scot Lukas, and reached out to Kelly. After three auditions, Kelly was chosen as the new co-host, alongside Stacy London. He describes their relationship as "a brother and sister in the backseat of a car on a long car trip. Sometimes it’s fun and we’re playing games; but other times, it’s, ‘She’s touching me! She’s looking at me! I can hear her breathing!'"
Kelly is openly gay, but in comparing What Not to Wear with the preceding show Queer Eye—which pioneered gay men making over people seen as needing fashion advice—the Washington Blade noted some key differences:"[U]nless you have your gaydar on while watching the show, you would have no idea. There's nothing 'gay' about the show and he doesn't really talk about it on air. Viewers trust Kelly's expertise based on the strength of his choices rather than on the 'he's gay and he should know' fashion theory."[ Kelly's wedding to his partner is planned for 2009 at their home in Connecticut.

Angela Sun
Angela Sun is an award-winning American journalist, television presenter, and sports reporter. A correspondent for ESPN X Games, Sun is also one of the faces of Al Gore's Current TV network. Born in Saratoga, California, of Chinese descent, Angela Sun began her career interning at High School Sports Focus of KICU-TV in the Bay Area. Nancy Kerrigan's father dead, brother arrested
Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan has been arrested in connection with the suspicious death of their father on Sunday, according to Massachusetts police. According to a report in the New York Daily News, police responded to a 911 call saying Daniel Kerrigan, 70, had suffered a sudden death and found him unconscious in the kitchen of his home.
His wife Brenda reportedly said he had suffered a heart attack.
However, Mark Kerrigan, 45, was also transported to the hospital for an unspecified injury and was later taken to the Stoneham Police Department for questioning.
He is expected to be arraigned today on charges of assault and battery on an elderly person, according to police.
Kerrigan was born to Brenda and Dan Kerrigan. She has two brothers: Michael and Mark. She graduated from Stoneham High School and attended Emmanuel College in Boston to study business.
Kerrigan created The Nancy Kerrigan Foundation to raise awareness and support for the vision impaired. Kerrigan's mother, Brenda, is legally blind.

Mountain’s Leslie West and Jenni Maurer got married on stage following a performance at the Woodstock 40th anniversary concert. 15,000 attendees watched as West and Maurer passed through a procession which included Levon Helm, Larry Taylor and Corky Laing among others.
West is best known from the Howard Stern Radio Show. His bio says the following about Stern.

The Vagrants had two minor hits in the Eastern US: 1966's "I Can't Make a Friend" and a cover of Otis Redding's "Respect" the following year.
Some of the Vagrants' recordings were produced by Felix Pappalardi, who was also working with Cream (he produced the seminal Disraeli Gears). In 1969, West and Pappalardi would form the pioneering hard rock act Mountain, also the title of West's debut solo album. 1969's Mountain did not feature a keyboardist, but one was later added to the band to keep them from seeming like a Cream imitation. Rolling Stone identified the band as a 'louder version of Cream'.
The band's original incarnation saw West and Pappalardi sharing vocal duties and playing guitar and bass, respectively, and Corky Laing on drums with keyboardist Steve Knight. They had success with "Mississippi Queen", which reached #21 on the Billboard charts and #4 in Canada. It was followed by the Jack Bruce-penned "Theme For an Imaginary Western". Mountain is one of the bands considered to be forerunners of heavy metal music.
After the breakup of Mountain, West and Laing would produce two studio albums and a live release with Cream bassist Jack Bruce under the name West, Bruce and Laing. Mountain reformed in 1974 only to break up a few years later, but since 1985 has continued to tour and record.
West also recorded with The Who during the March 1971 Who's Next New York sessions on a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Baby Don't You Do It" as well as an electric version of "Love Ain't For Keepin'". Though the tracks were not originally included on the album, they appear on the 1995 and 2003 reissues as bonus tracks. LAFK is only on the 2003 reissue and the 1998 reissue of Odds and Sods. He also contributes to the demo of what became one of the group's signature songs, "Won't Get Fooled Again", which also has been included on the reissues.

Swan 'divorce' at Slimbridge wetland
Experts have told of their surprise after witnessing a rare "divorce" between a pair of swans at a Gloucestershire wildfowl sanctuary.
The Bewick's swans have returned to winter at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust centre at Slimbridge - but both have brought new partners.
It is only the second time in more than 40 years that a "separation" has been recorded at the centre.
Staff have described the new couplings as "bizarre".
It is not unheard of for the birds, which usually mate for life, to find a new mate but it tends to be because one of the pair has died, they said.
During the past four decades 4,000 pairs of Bewick's swans have been studied at Slimbridge, with only one previous couple moving on to find new partners.

Howard Schmidt as cybersecurity coordinator
Howard A. Schmidt, who was a cyber-adviser in President George W. Bush's White House, will be Obama's new cybersecurity coordinator, an administration official said Monday night.
The mission is challenging: to coordinate cybersecurity policy across the federal government, from the military to civilian agencies. Schmidt's appointment comes as the Pentagon launches a major new "cyber-command" unit up and running and the Department of Homeland Security works to improve protection of civilian networks.
In May, Obama declared the nation's digital networks a "strategic national asset" and said protecting them would be a "national security priority." Creating a White House cybersecurity office, run by a senior White House official, would be key to that effort, he said. "I'll depend on this official in all matters relating to cybersecurity, and this official will have my full support and regular access to me as we confront these challenges," Obama said from the East Room.

Ronald Grigg sue TMZ $20 million
Ronald Grigg, an attorney and former president of Jon Peters Entertainment, filed suit for defamation in Los Angeles Superior Court over a December 24, 2008 report entitled "Famous Producer Alleges Fraud, Theft, Date Rape." It detailed a lawsuit Peters had filed against Grigg. When the lawsuit was filed, Grigg was in the middle of an employment dispute with Peters and suffered irreparable harm due to the statements in the article, he says.
Grigg claims TMZ failed to investigate the matter and include his side of the story in the article, giving rise to claims for libel and false light and at least $20 million in damages.
TMZ, run by attorney Harvey Levin who is also named in the suit, did not respond to a request for comment. But a perusal of its report indicated that it was careful to restate what was said in Peters' lawsuit, which is usually covered under the fair reporting privilege of the First Amendment.
