Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office

Jefferson Parish Chief Administrative Officer Tim Whitmer will turn over records to both the U.S. Attorney's Office and the state Board of Ethics on Friday amid calls for his immediate resignation.

The parish council may also ask for the state attorney general's office to investigate Whitmer regarding the relationship between a company he owns and the parish-owned West Jefferson Medical Center.

WDSU has obtained the draft of a letter ready for council signatures that calls for the attorney general to serve as special counsel in the matter.

The records Whitmer is expected to turn over involve Lagniappe Industries, a company he co-owns with his wife. It provides insurance to the medical center, which is owned by the parish.

"He, as a public employee, is obligated as part of his duty is to produce this information," Councilman John Young said of Whitmer.

For now, Parish President Aaron Broussard isn't saying whether Whitmer could be fired because of the investigation.
