After 59 minutes of mostly boring, inept and slightly less boring and less inept football, the final minute of USC's 28-7 victory over UCLA on Saturday night at a stunned Coliseum made it all worthwhile.
A series that hasn't felt like much of a rivalry for the last decade suddenly became a great one as UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel and USC coach Pete Carroll engaged in a sequence of gutsy moves that had their teams playing a nationally televised game of over the line.
Neither team ever quite crossed that line, but did it come close, and boy was it fun to see some heat generated in what's been a mostly cold, dormant rivalry.
