Pilot Pen final

(Sports Network) - Unseeded American Mardy Fish booked a spot in Saturday's final at the $650,000 Pilot Pen Tennis event, a final U.S. Open tune-up. The 25-year-old wild card Fish ousted 6-foot-10 11th-seeded Croat Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 on a steamy Friday on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. The sloppy affair featured 84 unforced errors, including 52 by a weary Karlovic, who was sluggish throughout the match and appeared to be bothered by the heat on Day 6. Fish will meet his third-seeded fellow American James Blake or fifth-seeded Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in the title bout. The Edina, Minnesota native Fish will play in his ninth career ATP final (2-6) and his first since last year when he titled in Houston. The 2007 New Haven champion will collect $84,000.
