Death toll rises in Peru earthquake
A strong earthquake and at least four aftershocks have struck off the central coast of Peru.
At least 115 people have been killed and 200 injured in the southwestern cities of Ica and Pisco.
Stuart Sipkin of the US Geological Survey told Al Jazeera at least four aftershocks had been recorded after the 7.9 magnitude quake.
Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo said from the capital, Lima, that downed phone lines were making it difficult to ascertain the extent of damage in outlying areas.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii issued a tsunami warning for South America's Pacific coast but later cancelled it.
Carlos Vellejos, deputy health minister, gave the latest death toll of victims as 115 and said he was trying to reach Ica, the hardest hit by the earthquake.
News station Canal N said a church collapsed in Ica, south of Lima, killing at least four people and injuring 70.
