Tips Increase Your Confidence

Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Too often, we place excess importance on potential problems. We all have a certain amount of energy so let’s apply it to creating extraordinary relationships, advancing our careers and meeting our goals INSTEAD of wasting that energy worrying. In doing something for the first time, imagine that you have already done it in the past.

Find someone who is already confident in that area and copy them. Model as many of their behaviors, attitudes, values, and beliefs for the context you want to be confident in as you can.

Use the “as-if” frame. I literally love this frame of mind. Disarm the nagging, negative internal voice. That negative internal voice can keep anyone stopped.

Nick Masset + Danny Richar = Ken Griffey Jr

Nick Masset along with infielder Danny Richar of the Chicago White Sox have both been traded for right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds. Talks began Wednesday, July 30, 2008, one day before the trade deadline, and the deal was made official after Griffey accepted the trade the morning of July 31, 2008. The trade must first be approved by commmisioner Bud Selig.

"Nick" Masset is a right-handed pitcher for Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox. He was selected in the eighth round of the 2000 entry draft by the Texas Rangers. Masset attended St. Petersburg Junior College prior to entering the Rangers farm system in 2004.

Masset had minor league stints with the Single-A Stockton Ports, Double-A Frisco RoughRiders and Triple-A Oklahoma RedHawks prior to his first call-up in June 2006.

Masset was traded to the White Sox on December 23, 2006, along with John Danks and Jacob Rasner for Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano.

Obama Audacity Watch

The Obama Audacity Watch is a list of instances of Barack Obama's audacious behavior and is a pun upon the title of Barack Obama's first book, "The Audacity of Hope."

The Barack Obama Audacity Watch page is very easy to navigate. Barack Obama Audacity Watch has a list of headline/links on the left side to stories describing Barack Obama's latest audacious (i.e. arrogant) behavior.

The right side of the Barack Obama Audacity Watch page has some youtube videos of reporting on Barack Obama's audacity, including the Top Ten Signs Barack Obama is Over Confident from the Letterman Show. Another video shows John Stewart explaining why one is allowed to laugh at Barack Obama.

Dena Riley & Richard Davis, brutalizing two women

Richard Davis is being tried on 40 felony counts, including capital murder, kidnapping and rape. The jury in the trial of Richard Davis, 44, reviewed 90 minutes of edited images taken from seven hours of videotapes that police found in Davis' Independence apartment. According to previous testimony, the videotapes showed Davis and his girlfriend, Dena Riley, brutalizing two women -- Marsha Spicer, 41, and Michelle Huff-Ricci, 36.

Davis is on trial in Jackson County for the May 2006 death of Spicer, of Independence. He faces 40 felony counts, including capital murder, and could face the death penalty if convicted. Riley's trial is scheduled for next year. Davis and Riley also are charged in neighboring Clay

Jason Bay Trade, The Pirates and Rays Are Talking

The Pirates' entire organization is devoid of pitching talent. They have Jason Bay. The Rays have tons of young pitching talent. Maybe these two crazy kids should get together. Dejan Kovacevic's PBC Blog at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says they might:'The Pirates and Tampa Bay continue to discuss Jason Bay, a process that became deep yesterday, and two prospect names known to be in the mix on the Rays' end are shortstop Reid Brignac and pitcher Jeremy Hellickson.'

Jason Bay has had a much more productive 2008, hitting .287 with 19 home runs and 53 runs batted in through the All Star break. In a May series against the Chicago Cubs, Bay had extra-inning walk off hits in back-to-back games; the first two walk off hits of his career. A month later, he got his third walk off hit of the season and his career with a 13th-inning solo home run against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640

In Batman Begins, the car is only glimpsed fleetingly as Bruce Wayne enjoys a ride with some lady friends, but for The Dark Knight we really get to see what the Lamborghini can do. “We asked Lamborghini to give us some cars so we can race them,” explains the movie’s production designer, Nathan Crowley, “and use them in an action sequence, which we didn’t do on the last film.”

The LP640 version was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006, as a facelift for the coupé version. It features a 6.5 Liter engine, now producing 472 kW (642 PS/633 bhp), improving performance substantially. Like the base Murciélago, the engine is mounted "backwards", with the transmission in front of the engine and the differential behind it, instead of a transaxle normally seen on mid-engine cars. There were also a few minor external changes, primarily to the low air intakes.

The front and rear bumpers have been reshaped to channel air more efficiently, and the new exhaust has been shaped into the rear diffuser to minimize aerodynamic lift. The air intake on the left side has been enlarged to accommodate the feeding of the oil cooler. The car's body is made up of steel and carbon fiber, while underneath a revised suspension has been added to keep up with the car's performance. It also has an all-wheel-drive system that normally distributes 70% of the torque to the rear wheels, but can allocate up to 100% to either end depending on where the grip is running out. There are also new 18-inch (460 mm) Hermera alloy wheels running huge 335/30 tires at the rear. The LP640 retains the original car's scissor-opening doors. The LP640 coupè U.S. MSRP rests at $318,800.

Inside the LP640, the seating has been reshaped to accommodate greater headroom, while an upgraded instrument panel is flanked by an improved stereo system.

The LP640's optional equipment includes carbon ceramic brakes for swifter braking, chrome paddle shifters and a glass engine cover which shows off the LP640's engine.

A special edition version of the Murciélago LP640 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show. The Versace edition features a customized all-white exterior and a matching white interior. However, a one-of-a-kind black LP640 Versace and LP640 Roadster Versace were also presented by the factory.

Lamborghini announced the LP640 Roadster version at the 2006 LA Auto Show.

Alligator Gar (Fishgator)

A young boy catches this “freaky deaky” fishgator creature at Kiwanis Lake in Tempe. An Alligator Gar (Fishgator) was caught by Jose Chavez recently at Kiwanis lake. Jose says, “I see fish like this on the Discovery Channel,” he said.

But this weird creature isn’t something you would expect to see in Kiwanis Lake in Tempe.Jose and his father fish Kiwanis Lake frequently. The evening they caught what appears to be an alligator gar or fishgator, they had tried out a new kind of bait - real chicken liver.

The alligator gar, Atractosteus spatula, is a primitive ray-finned fish. Its also referred to as the gator gar. Unlike other gars, the mature alligator gar possesses a dual row of large teeth in the upper jaw. These remarkably alligator-like teeth, along with its snout, give it its name. The dorsal surface of the alligator gar is a brown or olive-color, while the ventral surface tends to be a lighter color. Their scales are diamond-shaped and interlocking (ganoid) and are sometimes used by Native Americans for jewelry.

Also unlike other gars, the alligator gar is capable of breathing air and can survive up to two hours above water.

The alligator gar is the largest species of gar and is the largest exclusively freshwater fish in North America. It can be as long as eight to twelve feet and often weighs at least 100 pounds at maturity. The current world record alligator gar weighed 279 pounds and was caught in the Rio Grande River in 1951. Even larger alligator gars — over 300 pounds — have been caught by trotliners.

Ken Griffey Jr. to White Sox

The Reds have traded Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox, pending his approval. Ken Griffey Jr. will decide Thursday morning whether he will approve the deal, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. It is not known what the Reds would receive in return.

Ken Griffey Jr., as a player with at least 10 years of major-league service, five with the same club, has the right to block any deal. The White Sox attempted to acquire him from the Reds at the trade deadline in 2005, but the trade reportedly was nixed by Reds ownership for financial reasons.

On April 4, 2008, Ken Griffey Jr. passed Reggie Jackson for 16th on the all-time list after driving in his 1,702nd RBI. Two days later, in an 8–2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, Griffey hit his 594th career home run and his first of the 2008 season. The two-run homer pushed him closer to becoming the sixth player in history to reach 600-home runs. On April 9, in the 12–4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, Griffey batted 2 for 4 with 3 runs and an RBI. On April 15, in the 9–5 loss to the Chicago Cubs, Griffey hit his 595th career home run, batting 1 for 4 on the game with the solo hit being the two-run homer. Two days later on April 17, Griffey hit his 596th career home run while batting 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs in a 9–2 victory by the Cincinnati Reds over the Chicago Cubs.

In the April 20 matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, Griffey batted 1 for 5 with the walk-off RBI in the bottom of the 10th inning for the 4–3 victory. Griffey's walk-off hit came after Edwin Encarnacion's and Joey Votto's back-to-back home runs. On May 31st, 2008 Griffey hit the 599th home run of his career against the Atlanta Braves, needing only 1 more home run to become only the sixth member of the legendary 600 home run club. He reached the plateau on June 9, 2008, hitting his 600th home run on a 3-1 pitch from Mark Hendrickson of the Florida Marlins in the first inning. Fans of both teams gave him a standing ovation.

On June 30, Griffey hit his fifth career walk-off home run against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The two-run pinch-hit shot, his 603rd career home run, came in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Reds to the 4-3 victory. On July 4th, Griffey hit career home run #604 as the Reds beat the Washington Nationals, 3-0.

Despite being ranked second in the National League All-Star voting for outfielders for most of the first half of the season, Griffey finished fourth with 2,907,746 ballots and was not selected to his 14th All-Star Game as a reserve, being 87,000 votes away from Kosuke Fukudome in third place. At the All-Star Break, Griffey was batting .239 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. "I always have a backup plan...If you can't hit a tough lefty, bunt. If you can't hit a tough righty, bunt. If you can't go to the All-Star Game, go to the Bahamas," Griffey said.

Following the All-Star Game, Griffey hit his 606th and 607th home runs of his career and 13th and 14th home runs of the season, respectively. On the day of the 2008 MLB Trade Deadline, July 31, 2008, the Cincinnati Reds agreed to trade Griffey to the Chicago White Sox -- the deal is reportedly dependent upon commissioner approval .

Monster of Montauk

A Very dead creature washed up on a beach in Montauk at the far eastern end of New York's Long Island. On Tuesday afternoon, a photo was posted on Gawker, the Big Apple's reigning gossip blog, which treated the Montauk monster with characteristic respect: "Good Luck With Your Hell Demons."

The animal looks like a bloated, hairless dog, except that it's got an eagle-like beak, a prominent brow ridge and a curiously elongated front paw.

Google's search index one trillion page

Google announced on July 25 that its search engine has indexed over 1 trillion unique web pages from all over the globe. Google, known as a popular international search engine, has servers all around the world to index web pages. With the rapid development of the Internet, the number of web pages with unique URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is growing by several billion per day. In 1998, Google had an index of only about 26 million pages. Within 10 years, that number has increased by 38 thousand times.

In the early years of the competition of search engines in the 90s, comparing the number of indexed pages was thought to be the best way to compare the engines, while today, users tend to find it more important for a search engine to return pages better related to their searches. Though many search engine competitors exist, Google boasts more patented technology than most, such as PageRank and text-analyzing, and services like the well-known Gmail, WAP search, Blogger, Google Earth, Google Moon, and range-specialized and customized search.

SEPTA buys rail cars from NJ Transit

SEPTA, has seen a sharp increase in ridership, which has caused overcrowding on the trains. While SEPTA awaits new Silverliner V trains from Hyundai Rotem, which begin arriving in 2009, it had hoped to lease eight rail cars from New Jersey Transit, at an agreed-upon rate of US$10,000 per month. However, due to problems with insurance and liability indemnification, the deal fell through, according to Casey.

Gender identity protection in ENDA

More than 100 protesters gathered Saturday in San Francisco to object to the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) stance on gender identity.

The protesters picketed the HRC's annual fundraising dinner to protest the organization's efforts to remove gender identity protections from legislation that would add sexual orientation to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).The group was clad in a variety of outfits, ranging from street clothing to drag to camp gear; some wore make-up or fake moustaches. Cross-dressers, gays, lesbians, transgender and gender inspecific individuals were in attendance. The group claimed a unified purpose: to express feeling betrayed by the HRC's action, a move the protesters argued is opposed by over 350 local, statewide and national LGBT advocacy organizations.

Puffin numbers are falling on Farne Islands

Puffin numbers are declining on the Farne Islands, where the United Kingdom's largest colony resides. During the past five years, the puffin population on the islands has decreased by a third. Experts had expected numbers to rise this year, but now with news of the decline, are citing an inability to find food as the probable cause.

Numbers of puffins have also been declining on the Isle of May, 100 miles north. Professor Mike Harris, Emeritus Research Fellow at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, said that the birds spend eight months at sea, and some do not return, which may be the cause of the lowering population.

Clark Rockefeller, allegedly abducted Reigh Boss

Clark Rockefeller, a former director of the Algonquin Club in Boston, Massachusetts, has allegedly abducted his 7-year-old daughter, Reigh Boss, during a supervised weekend visit. The weekend visit was supervised by a social worker, and Rockefeller got away in a black SUV, affixed with Red Sox stickers, driven by another man.Authorities believe that Rockefeller might try to escape to Bermuda from New York City on his recently purchased yacht, "Serenity". The New York City Police Department, Coast Guard, and the FBI searched the area around New York City and Long Island for the yacht.

Massachusetts State Police issued an Amber Alert for Reigh on Sunday, but canceled it Monday after New York Police said that Rockefeller was last seen at 7:30pm Sunday at Grand Central Station.

Ted Stevens has been indicted by federal grand jury on seven criminal counts for making false statements in his Senate financial disclosure forms. Stevens is the highest-profile politician ensnared in the corruption scandal surrounding VECO Corporation and its executives' attempts to influence politics.

VECO, an oil pipeline and services company, is alleged to have funded renovations to the Stevens home in Girdwood, Alaska in 2000. In 2007, Veco chief executive Bill Allen pleaded guilty to charges of extortion, bribery, and conspiracy.

The indictment alleges that Stevens "knowingly and willfully engaged in a scheme to conceal" gifts from VECO, which totaled "hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of things of value."

Stevens is the longest serving Republican senator in history. Calls to his office in Washington for comment were redirected to a voicemail indicating his "office is closed."

Earthquake strikes southern California (pics)

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) a magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck southern California in the Chino Hills area (San Bernadino County) near Los Angeles California, east of Highway 142, at about 11:42 a.m. (PDT), lasting about one minute.

The USGS preliminary report states the quake's epicenter was located near a golf course in an upscale community 3 kilometers (2 miles) southwest from Chino Hills or 47 km (29 miles) east-southeast of Los Angeles(33.959° N 117.752° W). It was centered about 7.6 miles below the surface. The shaking is reported to have been felt as far as away as San Diego and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fire officials have said that there have been no reports of injuries, deaths or damages, but the USGS states that damage could be moderate. Public safety officials are asking people who live in the area to inspect their home for gas and water leaks, as well as contacting older or disabled relatives to check on them. Officials advise evacuating homes if leaking gas can be detected.

As many as thirty-four aftershocks registering a magnitude 3.8 and lower, have been recorded since the initial quake. The earthquake originally registered a 5.8, but was later reduced to a 5.4 by the USGS.

Kelsey Grammer returns to hospital

Kelsey Grammer has checked into a hospital in New York after feeling faint. It is the second time the actor has checked into a hospital after he suffered a heart attack in Hawaii two months ago. His current condition is not life threating.

According to his publicist, Stan Rosenfield, the symptons may have been caused by a mix up in his medication. "His doctor is changing the medication and they will monitor him overnight," he said. Grammer blamed the heart attack, which he suffered while paddle-boating with his wife, on the pressure from his cancelled sitcom Back To You.

Grammer is famous for appearing on television sitcoms such as Frasier and Cheers. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series" three times and a Golden Globe Award for "Best Performance by an Actor" in a TV-Series in 2001.

The mini-microscope has the magnifying properties of a top quality optical microscope but doesn’t need lenses, and can be mass produced at an estimated cost of $10/unit. The device combines computer chip technology with microfluidics – the process of channelling fluid flow at very small scales. Researchers coated a layer of metal on to a grid of charge-coupled device sensors. Then they punched a line of holes measuring less than one-millionth of a meter across into the metal and spaced them five micrometers apart. Each hole corresponds to one pixel on the sensor array. Finally the researchers placed a microfluidic channel on top.

U.S. Deficit Reach Record $490 Billion

The U.S. budget deficit will widen to a record of about $490 billion next year, an administration official said, leaving a deep budget hole that will constrain the next president's tax and spending plans. The projected deficit for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 is higher than the $407 billion forecast by President George W. Bush in February. The bigger shortfall reflects dwindling tax receipts because of the U.S. economic slowdown, the cost of a $168 billion economic stimulus package and spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Brad Ziegler, Breaks 101-year Record

Reliever Brad Ziegler Breaks 101-year Pitching Record, Brad Ziegler broke a 101 year old record yesterday when he pitched two scoreless innings to increase his streak of scoreless innings to begin a career to 27.

Brad Ziegler set the major-league record for scoreless innings to start a career as the Athletics’ bullpen threw 4-1/3 shutout innings to bail out starter Dana Eveland in a 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Brad Ziegler gave up two singles in two innings to extend his scoreless streak to 27 and break a record that had stood since 1907. Ziegler’s record broke the previous mark of 25 innings set by Philadelphia Phillies right-hander George McQuillan. It’s also the third-longest scoreless streak overall by an Oakland reliever.

Afterward, the 28-year-old right-hander kept two balls from his outing but planned to send the rest — along with a pair of his shoes and a hat — to the Hall of Fame.

It’s a guaranteed but that it can only be down hill for Brad from this point. That is an amazing record that might go another 100 years without being broken. Congrats to Brad and the A’s

Monica Goodling report

The Department of Justice's Inspector General's Office has released another of its reports on the politicization of DOJ under Bush. This one ought to be called the Monica Goodling report, as it focuses on her litmus test hiring. I'll post some updates on the details, but here is the conclusion:

Hey! Good news! We might actually get to fire someone over this--John Nowacki, who is still employed by DOJ, just got caught lying about Goodling's practices. Though, in Mukasey's statement on the report, he somehow forgot to mention that he was going to fire Nowacki for covering up his colleague's illegal activities.

I guess that means we'll just have to try to get Sampson and Goodling and Nowacki disbarred based on this report.

Update: Conyers and Sanchez are considering a criminal referral for perjury. I'm still reading the report, but I bet this would be a tough thing to pull off, since Sampson did admit Goodling's politicization of Immigration Judges, and Monica admitted to it all.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Robert Novak has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is being treated in a Boston hospital.

Cuil, New Search Engine

Cuil launched, claiming a bigger index size (120 billion web pages) than Google or any other search engine. The pedigree of the founders and execs, which includes three ex senior Googlers, means the service will be compared to Google from day one. And the way they will be compared is index size and, more importantly, relevance/ranking of results.

Sharks Tonic immobility

Tonic immobility is a natural state of paralysis that animals enter, in most cases when presented with a threat.

Some sharks can be placed in a tonic immobility state by turning them upside down. The shark remains in this state of paralysis for an average of fifteen minutes before it recovers. Scientists have exploited this phenomenon to study shark behaviour.Usually when being testing sharks under this "tonic" state, scientists will put a chemical plume in the water awakening the shark.

Sharks may not always respond to tonic immobility by physical inversion of the animal as has been done with lemon and reef sharks. With tiger sharks 10 to 15 feet in length, tonic immobility may be achieved by placing hands lightly on the sides of the animal's snout approximately to the general area surrounding its eyes. Great white sharks have been shown to be not as responsive as other species whenever tonic immobility has been attempted. Scientists believe that tonic, displayed by sharks, may be linked with defense because female sharks seem more responsive than others During tonic immobility, the dorsal fin straighten and both breathing and muscle contraction becomes more steady and relaxed.

Tonic immobility also can be somewhat effective on anole lizards and a loose study was done with tonic immobility with the rabbit. Both were inconsistent examples of tonic immobility.

Tonic immobility has also been used to describe the paralysis which often immobilizes animals such as rodents or birds when they feel threatened by a predator. It can be argued that tonic immobility plays a role in survival if it helps a hunted animal to blend in with its surroundings by remaining as motionless as an inanimate object. This tonic state is common with invertebrates as well.Inducing tonic immobility in common animals requires, in some cases, extreme treatment such as electric shock along with other elements that produce stress.Contrary to popular belief, theories regarding "putting a lobster to sleep" seem to be rumors without empirical data to confirm their validity

Burl, 25 years Blackduck Woodcarvers Festival

Blackduck woodcarver Jim Schram and a few of his students carved up a new tradition the Blackduck Woodcarvers Festival. The festival celebrated 25 years Saturday with about 50 woodcarvers from across Minnesota and Iowa displaying, demonstrating and selling their handiwork, including Schram.

Burl is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds. Burls are the product of a cambium. A burl results from a tree undergoing some form of stress. It may be environmental or introduced by humans. Most burls grow beneath the ground, attached to the roots as a type of malignancy that is generally not discovered until the tree dies or falls over. Such burls sometimes appear as groups of bulbous protrusions connected by a system of rope-like roots. Almost all burl wood is covered by bark, even if it is underground. Insect infestation and certain types of mold infestation are the most common causes of this condition.

Furniture is made of burls of trees. Burl wood is fairly rare as all trees will not develop Burls naturally and it requires some type of external force to create the burl on the tree. Furniture made from burls has a very distinct grain is is very attractive. This is the reason furniture made from burl wood is becoming so popular.

Jennifer Seibel Gavin Gewsom Wife

Jennifer Siebel married San Francisco Mayor and California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom today, July 26, 2008, at her parents ranch in Montana. Apparently, heterosexual marriages are still legal in Montana.

Newsom has been in the news a good bit lately with troubles over his ’sanctuary city’ policy that lead to the murder of the husband and sons of Danielle Bologna. The couple married at her parent’s working horse ranch, so there was rodeo and cowboy fun at the rehearsal dinner. They say Newsom donned a cowboy hat, horsed around on a horse, tried to rustle a steer and I’m guessing not a single hair was out of place when he finished.

The couple are honeymooning in Africa, so the theme of the wedding was ‘Out of Africa’ with a touch of Montana. It sounds like an interesting combination.

Mariposa County fire that has forced the evacuation of nearly 200 homes in the Midpines area, along Highway 140, about 30 miles west of Yosemite National Park.

An additional 2,000 homes — in Midpines, Mariposa, Greeley Hill, Coulterville, Bear Valley, and Mt. Bullion Camp — were threatened as of Saturday evening and power was out in Yosemite, according to Cal Fire.

Kenneth Copeland, Prosperity gospel works

Kenneth Copeland has built a religious empire teaching that God wants his followers to prosper. Circle of Copeland's relatives and friends have done just that, They include the brother-in-law with a lucrative deal to broker Copeland's television time, the son who acquired church-owned land for his ranching business and saw it more than quadruple in value, and board members who together have been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for speaking at church events.

Marnie Nixon

Audry Hepburn did a wonderful job as Eliza Doolitle in the movie My Fair Lady that came out in 1964, yet fewer of us know that Marnie Nixon opened that show on Broadway as Eliza in 1956, originating that role which many of us recognize today. Shocking as it is, Audry Hepburn did not sing in the movie My Fair Lady. Marnie Nixon sang these songs and beautifully, though many of us may not recognize this.

She also sang behind the scenes for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Deborah Kurr in The King and I, even Marilyn Monroe in Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and many more.

Brett Favre om opening of Green Bay’s training camp

Brett Favre apparently wont be among the Packers showing up for the opening of Green Bay’s training camp Sunday morning.

That agreement, presumably, would be a trade. The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have emerged as two potential trade partners for the Packers, and Favre told si.com that he would consider a trade to any team.

Holloway wanted the mother killed because she determined the competing girl would be so upset by the murder of her mother that she would drop out of the competition. Both girls were thirteen at the time of the plot.

Camille Hayton Patrick Moberg obsession

Patrick Moberg’s obsession has been identified as Camille Hayton. See photos of her and Carly, who are spawning a naughty intern dating rage. Camille Hayton was identified by a coworker as a 22-year old advertising intern from Melbourne Australia.
She works for the fashion magazine called BlackBook. That is nice, but I want to see her MySpace page and Facebook page.

Camille is a student of art and photography who graduated recently from the University of California in Santa Cruz, a total party girl town. Her home burned down in New York so she might need a new bedroom.

Venetian Night

Boats from all around Chicago and the suburbs take an annual trip up the lakefront between the Shedd Aquarium and the Chicago Yacht Club. About 35 owners this year will decorate their boats with lights, props and costumed people to make the beautiful trip down Lake Michigan.

Venetian Night is the longest running event that the City of Chicago produces. According to the Chicago Mayor's Office of Special Events, it was once a multiday event that featured a beauty pageant and parade down State Street in addition to the lighted-boats-and-fireworks fare. The pageant and parade are gone, but Venetian Night's overwhelming popularity still stands.

Tour De France, Stage 20 Tour de France, 2008

145 riders remaining in the Tour de France, but we'll be focusing most of our attention on the final 20 riders to leave the start house.Unlike the 2008 Tour’s first time trial back in Cholet, this 53km stage 20 is more like a typical Tour time trial. It starts from the village of Cerilly (population 1,568), and features mostly twisting back roads, linked by short stretches of straighter highway, with some short climbs and fast downhills in the opening half and one short climb and downhill toward the end. Don’t expect any record speeds on this course that is constantly changing direction on a zigzag route to the pretty town of St. Amand-Montrond (population 12,000), where the finish is on the Rue Pelletier Doisy.

Only one Tour stage has ever finished in St. Amand-Montrond. That was in 2001, when Lance Armstrong took a 61km time trial that started in Montlucon to clinch his third Tour victory, two days before the finish in Paris. The runners-up in that TT were Spain’s Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano (1:24 back) and Jan Ullrich (who conceded 1:39 to his American rival). The highest placed of this year’s likely starters were Jens Voigt (18th, 4:49 back) and Carlos Sastre (21st, 5:19 back) — both of whom still race for CSC today.

Susan Neiman

Susan Neiman is a director of the Einstein Forum in Berlin and author of Moral Clarity: A Guide for Grown-Up Idealists.

Susan Neiman's piece is something of a miscellany and is, perhaps unsurprisingly, uneven. There are some good thoughts within it about the differences between American and German.

Sirius Merger

XM/Sirius Merger Gets FCC Chairman’s Approval, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday evening approved the merger of XM and Sirius Satellite radio stations by a vote of 3 to 2.

"The merger is in the public interest and will provide consumers with greater flexibility and choices," chairman Kevin Martin said in a statement.

"Consumers will enjoy a variety of programming at reduced prices and more diversified programming choices. It will also spur innovation and advance the development and use of interoperable radios, bringing more flexible programming options to all subscribers."

Martin and Republican Commissioners Robert McDowell and Deborah Tate reportedly voted in favor of the merger, while Democrats Jonathan Adelstein and Michael Copps dissented.

Susan Juliette

They named their daughter Susan Juliette !!!

Pregnant Man Thomas Beatie and his wife welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in late June. I know, I know…Beatie isn’t really a celebrity. I was just pleased to see how non-wacky the name was, given the sensationalist nature of the pregnancy.

Hiram Bullock Died

RIP Hiram Bullock

Hiram’s career as a solo artist began in 1983. He has produced all of his albums, which include many of his own songs. His albums span many different genres of music, from the contemporary jazz of “From All Sides” to the rock of “World of Collision”; from the latin-influenced “Carrasco” to the organ-trio jazz of “Late Night Talk”. The style that Hiram’s fans have come to expect in live performances is exemplified by the group-oriented funky rock of “Color Me”, and continued with “Try Livin’ It” and his latest release, “Too Funky 2 Ignore”. He is also known as a dynamic performer, who gives his all for the sake of the show.

Casey Blake to Dodgers

The Cleveland Indians are closing in on a trade that would send third baseman/outfielder Casey Blake and cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers for two minor leaguers, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. The teams were in the process of finalizing the deal early Saturday and it appeared the trade could be completed by the end of the day.

While Blake won’t make that much of an impact — it’s not as if we’re getting A-Rod — he will likely stabilize the 3B position for the rest of the year. As a rental, he could also net us a draft pick or two if we let him walk at the end of the season.

Eyelid Tattoos

This really is the most extreme form of tattooing, unlike more traditional places which can be hidden under clothes. Having a tattoo on your face really is the most loud and proud you can go.

Dan McCutchen and Jeff Karstens are leaving

Dan McCutchen and Jeff Karstens are leaving. The Pirates and Yankees reconfigured their trade Saturday morning, keeping Jose Tabata and Ross Ohlendorf in the deal but changing the other two prospects to McCutchen and Karstens. To me, this makes it a worse trade for the Yankees.

Ann Veneman

Republican Ann Veneman, who was agriculture secretary for Bush's first-term cabinet. The search committee, now led by Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder, raised Veneman's name — among others — in discussions with members of Congress, said two Democrats familiar with the conversations. The mention of Veneman's name surprised Democratic lawmakers. The low-profile Republican was close to food and agriculture industries but clashed with farm-state Democrats and environmentalists during her tenure, which lasted from 2001 to 2004.

Ann Veneman, 59, has a biography that could be suited to Obama's unifying message. A Republican raised on a California peach farm, she rose to become the nation’s first female agriculture secretary. In 2002 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which was treated successfully. Today she serves as executive director of the United Nations children's agency UNICEF.

Gunga Din

Gunga Din is one of Rudyard Kipling's most famous poems, perhaps best known for its often-quoted last line, "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"

The poem is a rhyming narrative from the point of view of a British soldier, about a native water-bearer who saves the soldier's life but dies himself. Like several Kipling poems, it celebrates the virtues of a non-European while revealing the racism of a colonial infantryman who views such people as being of a "lower order".

Rosary Tapes

The Rosary Tapes have helped open the centuries-old tradition to other Christian denominations, according to former rock station disc jockey Bill Gildenstern and composer John Giaier, both devout Catholics. The Michigan-based music consultants have released the fourth CD in the set and have seen more than 1 million free downloads of an earlier CD.

People with few qualms about listening to something from a different denomination will have no trouble getting into the Rosary Tapes, Zablocki said.

Gildenstern and Giaier, who helped compose "Have You Driven A Ford — Lately?" and have written thousands of other advertising jingles in a more than 30-year collaboration, added original lyrics, music, percussion, acoustic and electric guitars, organs, pianos and vocal harmony to the devotional prayers.

Gildenstern said he was motivated to create the Rosary Tapes to help recite the prayers while driving, but Giaier said he had to be sold on the project. But Gildenstern took one of the mysteries, tapped out "Silent Night" on the piano and had his wife sing the traditional Christmas hymn while the rosary was recited.

Joyful Mysteries was released in 1992, followed by the Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries a year later. Free Internet downloads of the Joyful Mysteries started in 2001, and the Mysteries of Light, or Luminous Mysteries, was released this winter.

Outside of the free Internet downloads of the Joyful Mysteries, more than 40,000 sets of the Rosary Tapes have been sold, far from enough to make the two longtime friends wealthy. The four-CD set costs $39.95 online.

The tapes have renewed Cleo LaVoie's eagerness to pray the rosary.

Carolina Panthers signed Jonathan Stewart $10.8 million

The Carolina Panthers signed running back Jonathan Stewart to a five-year deal that includes $10.8 million in guaranteed money, putting all their draft picks under contract early Saturday before the team’s first training camp practice.

Stewart came to terms on the deal that could be worth up to $20 million hours after fellow first-round pick Jeff Otah signed his contact late Friday. Both players were on the field for the team’s opening practice Saturday morning

To make room on the 80-man roster, the Panthers released running back Alex Haynes and linebacker Brandon Jamison. Stewart, the 13th overall pick out of Oregon, is expected to compete for the starting running back job with last year’s backup, DeAngelo Williams. The Panthers released last year’s starter, DeShaun Foster, after struggling to get a consistent running game last season. The 5-foot-10, 235-pound Stewart missed offseason workouts following toe surgery, but passed his physical and was cleared to practice. The 6-6, 330-pound Otah, the 19th overall pick from Pittsburgh, is expected to start at right tackle as part of an overhaul of Carolina’s offensive line. The Panthers will likely have different players starting at all five positions this season.

The deals mean the Panthers avoid a rookie holdout for a second straight year. First-round pick Jon Beason missed the first eight days of training camp last year in a dispute over how his bonus money would be distributed.

Lowell Folk Festival 2008

This year's festival marks the 22nd year of free folk music in downtown Lowell, if you count the three years that Lowell hosted the touring National Folk Festival, and organizers claim that Lowell's is the largest free folk festival in the country.

Even more slippery than the word "free" is the word "folk," and the organizers of the festival have interpreted it as broadly as possible.

The event features music from New England's many ethnic groups, playing continuously on six separate stages.

Highlights include
  • Jamaican ska (the Skatalites),
  • Louisiana Zydeco (Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys),
  • mariachi and norteño (Boston's Mariachi Estampa de America),
  • Malian balafon (Medford's Balla Kouyaté)

And vendors will offer food from those New England ethnic traditions known for their deliciousness.
